75% Resident Discount on Maritime Transport

Residents in the Canary Islands can benefit from a 75% discount on regular passenger maritime transport, both on routes between the Canary Islands and on routes between the Canary Islands and the mainland, provided they meet the requirements established by current regulations.

What is the resident discount?

The resident discount is a reduction applied to the discountable fare of the ticket to facilitate maritime travel for residents in non-mainland territories.

In the case of the Canary Islands, the discount is 75% off the ticket price, in accordance with the regulations applicable to regular maritime passenger transport. This discount applies both to inter-island travel and trips between the Canary Islands and other points within the national territory.

On which routes does it apply?

The resident discount can be applied on:

  • Maritime routes between the Canary Islands.
  • Maritime routes between the Canary Islands and the mainland, in both directions.

How do I apply for the discount?

To benefit from the resident discount, you must indicate this during the booking process and provide the necessary data for its validation.

The resident status is verified, whenever possible, through the telematic system for residence accreditation. Nevertheless, we recommend carrying valid proof of residence documentation, in case it is necessary to present it during the issuance or validation of the boarding pass.

What documentation do I need to prove residence?

The valid documents for verifying residence may vary depending on the passenger’s nationality or administrative status:

  • Spanish citizens: valid DNI or travel certificate issued by the town hall.
  • Citizens of the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland: NIE or travel certificate issued by the town hall.
  • Family members of citizens of the European Union or European Economic Area: Spanish residence card for family members of an EU citizen or travel certificate issued by the town hall.
  • Third-country nationals with long-term residence: foreign identity card indicating long-term resident status and travel certificate issued by the town hall.

If residence cannot be validated automatically

If it is not possible to carry out the telematic residence verification, you must present a valid residence certificate along with the identity document indicated in that certificate.

Tickets issued before a regulatory change

If your ticket was issued before the entry into force of a regulatory modification regarding the discount percentage, the conditions applied at the time of purchase will be maintained.

If you wish to benefit from a new discount percentage, it may be necessary to issue a new ticket and request a refund of the previous one, in accordance with the fare conditions and the applicable change or cancellation policy.

Important before travelling

All documents must be valid. The discount can only be applied if the resident status is correctly accredited during booking or when requested by authorised personnel.
