Documentation for travelling between the Canary Islands

If you are going to make a ferry journey between islands of the Canary archipelago, you must carry the necessary documentation to identify each passenger and, if applicable, to prove the vehicle, pet, or travel with minors.

General documentation for boarding

To be able to board, all passengers must present:

  • Valid and current identity document: DNI, NIE or passport.
  • Valid ticket or boarding pass for the reserved journey and time.

If you are travelling with a vehicle

If you board with a car, motorcycle, van or any other vehicle, you must carry the corresponding documentation:

  • Driving licence.
  • Updated technical sheet.
  • Mandatory insurance in force.

If you are travelling with a pet

To travel with a pet on the ferry, it is advisable to carry their updated health documentation:

  • Animal passport or health record.
  • Identification microchip.
  • Vaccinations up to date.

If you are travelling with minors

Minors accompanied by their parents or legal guardians

  • DNI or passport of the minor, if they have one.
  • DNI, NIE or passport of the accompanying adult.
  • Family book or certificate proving parentage, if necessary.

Minors accompanied by another adult

If the minor is travelling accompanied by a person who is not their father, mother or legal guardian, the corresponding identification documentation and a travel authorisation must be presented.

  • DNI or passport of the minor, if they have one.
  • DNI, NIE or passport of the accompanying adult.
  • Official travel authorisation for minors issued by the Police, Civil Guard or Town Hall, signed by the father, mother or legal guardian.
  • Copy of the DNI, NIE or passport of the father, mother or legal guardian who authorises the travel.

Minors under 14 years without DNI

Minors under 14 years who do not have a DNI may travel with the family book or birth certificate, along with the documentation of the responsible adult.

Babies from 0 to 2 years

  • They can be identified with the family book or with DNI/passport, if they have one.
  • They must be included in the booking, even if they travel free or with a discounted fare.

Recommendation before travelling

Always check that all documentation is valid, original and in good condition before going to the port. In case of doubt, check the conditions of your ticket or contact Baleària Canarias before the journey.
